Keeping Our Beaches Clean
The beautiful beaches of California are famous around the world and continue to attract visitors all year. We can all pitch in to help keep these beaches beautiful. Saturday, September 17th is International Coastal Cleanup day where volunteers help clear the beaches of trash and things hazardous to marine life. Last year, more than 18 million pounds of trash was collected by nearly 800,000 volunteers during the cleanup day. But you don’t have to wait till then to do your part. Among the top items collected were cigarette butts, plastic bottles and bags, food wrappers, and straws. Along with polluting the beaches and oceans, hundreds of thousands of marine animals die each year from ingestion or entanglement. If you’re fishing, dispose of your lines, nets, and buoys in appropriate areas so they don’t end up lost at sea. Some of the best moments of
Newport Beach vacations are spotting dolphins, sea turtles, whales and more. We don’t want to harm these majestic creatures and affect our chances to see them. So after your fun in the sun, be sure to clean up the area around you so the next beach visitors can enjoy it as well.
