Surfside was first created in 1929 as an oceanfront resort and one year later officially became a part of California. The land at the northern part of Surfside was developed with a channel and a jetty and was used as an ammunition depot for the United States Navy during World War II which dramatically changed the community of Surfside. This development permanently changed the patterns of the waves which has caused major erosion problems for Surfside Beach. The US Army works with the community of Surfside on rebuilding the beach each year and preventing further erosion damage.
With it’s laid back beach vibes and small community charm, it’s no wonder that Surfside Beach is one of the most desirable places to live. No matter what house you live in, the beach is right outside your doorstep with no home being more than 75 feet from the beach. The weather is reliably pleasant averaging seventy and sunny during the day and comfortable and cooler at night. The ocean beckons surfers, paddle boarders, spectators, and every type of beachgoer who wants to soak up a piece of paradise.
