How To Keep Your Pillows Fresh & Clean
It's said that an average person spends at least 1/3 of their lifetime in their bed, so knowing this, it would only make sense that you'd want your pillows to stay fresh and clean. Even if we jump into bed squeaky clean after a shower every night, overtime, it is inevitable that dust mites, dirt, dead skin, and of course some drool accumulates. It's necessary to wash your pillows once or twice a year to make sure you have the sweetest of dreams.

Fluff Your Pillows
The first improvement you can make is to add a little pillow fluff to a part of your morning routine when you get out of bed. Fluff each pillow for about 10 seconds, so this will only take a minute at the most and we promise you won't be late for work. Not only does this get the dust and grime off of your pillow, but it will help your pillow to keep it's form and shape longer.

Wash Your Pillows
Before you throw your pillows into the washing machine, the first thing to do is check the care instruction tags on your pillow. If there are strict instructions, it's probably best to follow them, but below are our general washing instructions.
Down Pillows - You can wash most all down/feather pillows on a delicate cycle with a mild detergent in your washing machine. However, if you're worried about ruining the integrity of the pillow you can also opt to hand wash. Start by filling a basin with lukewarm water and gentle detergent. Add the pillow and gently use your hands to knead the pillow and do so for a few minutes. Once you're done washing, take the pillow out of the water and wrap it in a towel and squeeze the water out. The goal to get as much water out of the pillow as possible, but still keeping the pillow in it's form.
Polyester & Foam Pillows - These pillow types usually do very well in a washing machine when they're run on a gentle cycle with warm/cool water. To ensure that your pillow won't get ruined from the machine, you can fold the pillow, roll it up, and secure it with a rubber band. This will help the pillow keep it's form. Another trick is to wash two pillows in your washing machine at a time so that the machine stays balanced and the water and detergent is evenly dispersed.
Dry Your Pillows
The washing portion of cleaning your pillow is super important, but you can't forget about drying. Whenever you wash your pillows, be sure to dry you pillows all the way through or else there's the chance of mold and mildew growing which is not only gross, but can be harmful to your health. If you live in a warm climate and have the outdoor space, you can hang your pillows outside on a clothesline or there's the other option of using a dryer. If you choose to dry your pillows in a dryer do so on a low heat cycle. This might take about an hour but it's worth it. Even when the dryer cycle ends, double check to make sure that they are completely dry before you put the pillow cases back on and jump into bed.
